Leaf Litter and Coarse Woody Debris
Two containers are deployed in each of the 24 vegetation plots. The litter that accumulates is collected monthly (twice monthly during senescence) and dried. The dried contents are separated into two sizes of woody debris, leaf matter, and reproductive matter.
Two rectangular subplots are also marked on the forest floor in each of the 24 vegetation plots and collected and dried on the same schedule as litter. Woody debris above one centimeter in diameter is collected, dried, and weighed.
Tree Inventory
In each of the 24 vegetation plots, all trees within 50 feet of the center are tagged and tracked through time. During the growing season, we make monthly observations of tree mortality. Every three to four years, we measure the tree diameters.

The vegetation plots are home to many more routine monitoring efforts and stand-alone projects that aim to measure root growth, litter decomposition, and much more.
